India: 60 Years: 60 Words: [7] Communism
[India has competed 60 years of independence and to mark this, I am presenting this series of Articles, about the words, that are meaning a lot for the progress of the country. India is the ocean of thought streams and always there is a room vacant for emergence and merger of new stream of thought. The beauty of Indians thought stream lies in its absorbing powers, which in no time only get accustomed of good of new thought streams but expands worm arms in the welcome of new stream to make it a part of main stream of Indian thought. The probable reason of diversified cultural, social, religious customs and tradition present in the various parts of the country lies with this ability.
If we look at the growth history of communism in the country it all was started around the years of 1940’s as the agitation of deprived people away from the main growth stream. Growth and development process of free India never worked for blocking the space for difference of opinion and worked with positive effects of true democratic set up of rulings. In the initial years of independence of the country a few agitations, like the coconut labor unrest and farmer revolution against the Nizams of Hyderabad, which were tackled successfully by newly constituted state governments, had only found the rooting grounds for the communism in India but also provided a political ground for the expansion, hence the final drafting’s of Indian constitution in 1950’s was reflecting effects of presence of communism in main thought stream of Indians.
The political sky of the country was and is loaded with the governments leaded by the various communist parties, which are presently being identified as the left front, in the states like the Kerala and West Bengal etc. Though in these 60 years of independence communist parties were unable to expand their effect areas beyond the traditional strong holds but actions like very high literacy rate in Kerala and industrial and commerce growth in West Bengal went on to pay the communist parties in the political arena of the country. At present they are so strong that even the stability of central government is dependable to a great extend of their support. It is fact that during these 60 years local communist leadership had learned and adopted many lessons of democracy but when it comes to treaties like 123 with America they returned back to their traditional attitude and instead of going for creating a public awareness against the treaty, went on to threatening government to foot back for the sack of stability of government of ruling alliance.
Still there is lot of the people who dislikes the communism but surely the communist parties must be appreciated for the high literacy rates, bringing social uniformity, industrial growth, agricultural advancement and demolishing painful and human rights violating traditions like “Veti-Chakari” [bonded labor] in the states ruled by them during these 60years. At present communism is no more a foreign thought but is a part of wisdom and political main stream of the country and marching in tandem with others to make the India super power of the world in very near future.
